Stop Negotiating With God: The Secret to Peace in a Worry-Filled Life
/So many of us say we trust God, but if we’re honest, we still try to negotiate the terms of our obedience. We want to know what God is asking us to do and where He wants us to go before we agree to say yes.
But here’s the truth — contentment doesn’t come from having control. It comes from surrender.
When we try to dictate the details of our calling, we actually invite worry into our lives. We stress when things don’t unfold the way we pictured. We grow anxious when people don’t cooperate. We lose sleep trying to make life fit our plan instead of resting in His.
That’s why a worry-free life doesn’t just come from believing God is sovereign — it comes from surrendering to His sovereignty.
Jonah believed God was in control, but he still worried because he didn’t want God’s will. Even when he obeyed, his attitude was wrong — and that robbed him of peace. You and I can be doing the right thing outwardly and still be miserable inwardly if our hearts aren’t surrendered.
Peace doesn’t come from knowing the plan.
Peace comes from trusting the Planner.
If you truly want to live a life without worry, stop negotiating with God. Instead, surrender. Release your preferences. Exchange your will for His.
When you do, you’ll find what Hudson Taylor discovered when he said,
“It does not matter where He places me, or how.”
That’s the kind of surrendered heart that experiences true freedom.
